The bodies of a man and a woman, both 82, were found in the debris of their home on Weatherby Avenue in the Clarksboro section of East Greenwich after the Oct. 27 explosion, according to East Greenwich Township police.
The Gloucester County Fire Marshal’s office investigated, but has failed to locate an ignition source that touched off the fire.
“The home had a natural gas service in normal use with no other flammable products found inside the debris,” Gloucester County Chief Fire Marshal Shawn K. Layton said in a statement. “Investigators did find the home’s natural gas line in the basement debris. That particular natural gas line was in the on/open position and not connected to any basement appliances.
“Witness statements stated seeing and hearing an explosion and fire,” Layton said. “However, the failure to determine the ignition source and first fuel ignited leads this investigation to be ruled undetermined.”
